Just watched Finbar Furey, Free Spirit on the RTE player programme of 14 May. I had forgotten how good the Fureys were/are. Powerful stuff.

Dancer,
My daughter gave me series 1 - 3 of the The Big Bang Theory. Am just starting Series 3 now - very enjoyable.

Am also enjoying some Frasier re-runs as well.

Was anybody watching the Homeland series?

Recently watched "Iron Sky", a sci-fi comedy released 2012, but has not yet come to Ireland. An independently produced modest budget movie with no known stars, it has won awards at a number of festivals, and is rapidly gaining cult status.

It is the best black comedy I have seen yet..... ever! Watch for it, either on video or in cinemas like The Lighthouse.

If you are an afficianado of this genre, you will have seen "Moon" starring Sam Rockwell, and will be aware of the significance of Helium-3. For those not in the groove, Helium-3 is a potential energy source which is very scarce on earth, but there is a possibility of substantial quantities on the moon.

Have a look at the trailer. It mixes science with politics, history, racism, political incorrectness, philosophy and adventure with wonderful comedy.

Trailer is here http://www.ironsky.net/

Tried watching the big bang theory following many recommendations...... the forced loud canned laughter did my head in, never heard so much in any one programme. It can be good, but that ruined it for me.

Started watching Spiral - series 2 on BBC 4 last saturday night, now that is one excellent gritty French drama and well worth the hassle of subtitles.

I also enjoy Bluebloods as a bubblegum cop show, but spend far too much time watching movies (and Walking Dead) on line at 'movies2k.to' and sports on 'wiziwig' streams.

Anyone sign up for UPCs on demand service? I'm too mean as you can see from my online activities ;)

A great event. The English do know how to stage a performance. I'm looking forward to the Games. Yes, the Queen is intriguing, great backbone.

By the way . .

I was intrigued by so many unknown (to me) countries. There was one that I would have suspected was a supermarket chain until I checked it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuvalu. Now I want to move there :)

The only disappointing thing - no sighting of runaway Petie Quinn among any of the contigents

Be interesting to read other peoples reviews though. Anybody seen it or planning to go see it in the cinema?

My better half said it was getting good reviews on various radio shows ... so we set out to watch it online. I think we lasted half an hour before we pulled the plug. If thats the best thing since fried bread then we really are f**ked. Society is so dumbed down that Hollywood can take the piss, putting out that garbage safe in the knowledge that the pundits will promote it regardless of how bad it is and the public will buy into it thanks to the hype.

I am currently enjoying 'Suits' ...... a very well written American legal drama series about a young guy who has a photographic memory and ends up conning his way into a top law firm. Its very very well written with excellent characters and a good cast. Try typing it in the search engine at the 'movies2k' webpage.

Dancer,

That's for me. Can't wait. I love the lot of them. Had the pleasure some years ago to be invited to the premier of Mrs Brown and got to meet (well, shake hands and mumble) Judi Dench - whom I have admired forever! such a lady.

Hi Dancer,
I just started watching The Big Bang Theory and I agree that it is one of the best comedy shows that I have seen. Sheldon is fantastic, as are the rest of the small cast. Really looking forward to looking at old episodes and catching up on the show. :D

I have started watching CSI vegas on Wed' nights again
have to say yer man Ted Danson is good
now we have a new lady CSI in the series -
she is a blonde adult lady
I suppose some years ago she would have been described as "the thinking man's crumpet" but in the world of today that's not PC-
she is in the series on merit.
she is a blood expert (aparently one of the top experts in her field. )
whether she is any good in the office remains to be seen

Just watching the Womens football (GAA) on TG4

Have watched a few matches now and have to say although I am not a big football fan (sorry Harjoe) I think the womens football is brilliant to watch and streets ahead of the mens. Watch it sometime.

Pity there are so few people at the matches.

That's a great video Micháel,brought back great memories. I worked in the GPO for 29 years and I placed our engagement ring on my good lady's hand on the top of Nelson's Pillar in 1964. I often wondered if the fact that The Pillar is no longer there is that engagement still valid, must check with me solicitor.

What a find Micheál,
I had forgotten a lot of the old places, it brings back memories. People knew how to queue for a bus then!! Going to have another look at the video.

Love the Dalkey video. If I was only forty years younger I'd be on me bike to Dalkey looking for your man in the grey tee.

That video brings back so many memories

The policemen directing traffic
The shops
The open backed buses
The delivery trucks

Brilliant find.
